Seachem CO2 Indicator Solution 50ml – CO2 Monitoring Refill for Planted Aquariums

Seachem CO2 Indicator Solution 50ml is a refill liquid designed for use with glass CO2 drop checkers. It provides a simple colour-based reference for monitoring changes related to CO2 and pH in freshwater planted aquariums using CO2 injection.

The solution changes colour from blue to green to yellow as the monitored conditions change, giving aquarists an easy visual reference when managing CO2 levels in a planted aquarium.

This 50ml bottle is ideal for replacing indicator liquid in an existing glass checker without purchasing a complete new checker.

Key Features

  • Genuine Seachem indicator solution

  • 50ml refill bottle

  • Suitable for freshwater planted aquariums

  • Designed for use with glass CO2 drop checkers

  • Colour-changing visual indication

  • Blue, green and yellow colour range

  • Simple 15-drop application

  • Useful for aquariums running injected CO2

  • Can be used with compatible glass checkers

How It Works

The indicator solution reacts to pH changes associated with dissolved CO2. When placed inside a glass drop checker, the liquid changes colour, allowing the aquarist to visually monitor changes in the aquarium's CO2 conditions.

The colour indication is intended as a visual guide and should not be treated as an exact measurement of dissolved CO2 concentration.

Colour Guide

Colour General Indication
Blue Lower CO2 / higher pH indication
Green Intermediate indication
Yellow Higher CO2 / lower pH indication

Actual aquarium conditions can vary, so observe livestock behaviour and consider other water parameters when adjusting CO2.

How to Use

  1. Place the glass drop checker in an upright position.

  2. Add 15 drops of Seachem CO2 Indicator Solution into the checker.

  3. Carefully position the checker according to the instructions supplied with your glass checker.

  4. Place it inside the aquarium, preferably away from the direct CO2 diffuser outlet.

  5. Allow the indicator to respond and observe the colour regularly.

  6. Adjust CO2 injection carefully based on the overall aquarium conditions.

Suitable for CO2-Injected Planted Aquariums

This indicator solution can be used as part of a planted aquarium CO2 setup, including systems containing:

  • CO2 cylinders

  • CO2 regulators

  • Solenoid valves

  • CO2 diffusers

  • Bubble counters

  • Glass drop checkers

Note: The solution does not add CO2 to the aquarium. It is used only for visual monitoring.

Important Usage Notes

  • Do not pour the indicator solution directly into the aquarium.

  • Use the solution inside a suitable glass drop checker.

  • Keep the checker clean for easier colour observation.

  • Monitor fish and shrimp when making CO2 adjustments.

  • Maintain adequate water circulation and surface gas exchange.

  • Replace the indicator liquid when it becomes contaminated or difficult to read.

  • Use additional water tests when required.
